October 14, 2025 is EOL for Windows 10
Initial versions of Windows 10 were released in mid 2015 and now, on October 14, 2025 after 9 years in the game the time of Windows 10 is finally coming to an end, it’s going end of life.
Listen along
This means Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10, and all editions will remain in support with monthly security update releases through that date.
After October 14, 2025:
- the sky won’t all in but Microsoft will cease patching Windows 10 which increases the security risk for your business
- Software Developers and Line Of Business Applications won’t be considerate of the Windows 10 platform
- as software evolves it will leave older hardware behind and this is especially true of any really old machines which may have been upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10
Furthermore, if Microsoft and Line of Business Application providers won’t support Windows 10 then it makes it difficult for us to provide the level of support you expect and the level of support we want to deliver and upgrading your hardware will ensure that you have access to ongoing support and maintenance for your systems.
Though Windows 10 may continue to function, it will become increasingly less secure, increasing your exposure and Cyber Risk which could increase insurance premiums (or void your policies). There’s also legislation in draft at a federal level to place greater responsibilities on Management and Boards to ensure devices and systems are compliant and running Windows 10 is not a great place to be.
Here’s what Microsoft say about Windows Operating Systems and end of support (direct link):
Once a Microsoft operating system (OS) reaches the end of support, customers will no longer receive technical assistance, software updates, or security fixes. The OS may still work with programs and hardware after the sale or support of the operating system has been discontinued. However, the possibility increases that new programs and hardware will not be performant on an older OS. This frequently occurs because the manufacturers of new hardware and software developers make product-design decisions that take advantage of the increased functionality and features in newer operating systems. These manufacturers may decide to discontinue support of their products on older operating systems as appropriate.
Windows 11 Feature Release 24H2 support is good to October 2026.
We expect Windows 11 to follow similar lifecycle to Windows 10 and it’s widely expected that Microsoft will continue to support Windows 11 deep into it’s 8th or 9th year which means 2029/2030 and along the way they will continue to release monthly updates and annual feature releases.
Managing the rollout of Windows 11 feature releases
We manage the updates of the Windows Operating System for most of our customers so, at the time of writing, with Windows 11 24H2 being just a week old we still have most users on Windows 11, feature release 23H2 while we await some stability across that release as we’ve observed several reports of minor system issues after upgrading to 24H2.
Ok, Windows 10 is done, what to do next ?
Our recommendation is to get in front of this by planning now to replace any old systems running Windows 10 unless there’s a compelling reason why you need to stick with the current machine.
We will contact all customers across the next few weeks advising then which machines need replacing and inviting them to book a time to discuss their upgrades.
To proactively engage you can Contact Us or use this form to book a meeting directly.
