In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, staying ahead of threats is more critical than ever. Cybercriminals are constantly developing new tactics and exploiting vulnerabilities, making it essential for us to continuously enhance our security tools. By proactively evolving our defenses, we can better protect our customers’ sensitive information and maintain their trust. This involves not only adopting the latest technologies but also fostering a culture of vigilance and innovation.
Ultimately, our commitment to staying ahead of threats ensures that we can provide a secure and reliable environment for our customers, safeguarding their data and peace of mind.
First step: Improved handling of Phishing Emails (process change, existing tools)
Earlier this year we changed the way Phishing emails were handled, in the past they were delivered to junk mail folders and we all expected people to pass a critical eye across them before moving them out of junk. This proved patchy at best so we adopted a different approach and began quarantining all phishing emails instead. This changed processes but didn’t require any new tools. Quarantining emails then requires the end user to request an email to be released and after seeing some of the requests to release quite dangerous and relatively obvious phishing emails the decision to do this was vindicated and email remains the number one threat we see to all businesses.
Now that Phishing Emails are being quarantined the next challenge is to dial up the other protections deployed to our customers.
We’re really satisfied with the Microsoft Defender solution and the comprehensive protections it offers. We are not dumping Microsoft’s Defender suite but looking to add layers to enhance how we manage application use and patching and also looking at ways to provide expert human decision making across each endpoint 24 x 7.
In coming weeks we will provide updates here about measures we take to enhance customers security posture.
Improved security and more consistent application of systems will also allow us to get most Customers to the SMB1001 Silver Certification level quickly with a view to getting all customers SMB1001 Gold Certified in 2025.
